Be Transformed's Philosophy:
Be Transformed assumes you’re somewhere you would prefer not to be....
Many things happen in the aftermath of (traumatic) accident/injury. One day, you’re living life to the full; the next you’re on you’re back in a hospital bed and everything’s changed, often through no fault of your own. Injury often leads to prolonged inactivity…prolonged inactivity leads to muscle wasting/decreased appetite/poor sleep…these often lead to lower mood, increased anxiety and lower self-esteem…these can often lead to less social interaction and prolong the period of inactivity. I’m describing a slow, downward spiral as a result of one traumatic event.
Be Transformed assumes you are a whole person; Heart, Soul, Mind & Strength...
...or to put it in therapy terms: Spiritual, Emotional, Cognitive and Physical. A change in one aspect of your ‘self’ necessarily leads to changes in the other aspects, positive and/or negative. For example, a poor night’s sleep (situation/event) may lead to increased fatigue the following day (physical), lower patience with others (emotional), decreased concentration at work (cognitive), lower self-esteem (emotional) and less optimism about the future (spiritual). This negative spiral is shown visually in the following diagram:
Be Transformed assumes you would like to stop the negative, downward spiral and start a positive or upward spiral...
It’s possible to start your transformation from anywhere on the Thoughts/Emotions/Physical/Spiritual framework. From the following diagram, you can see where each of your therapists may offer the most support. Often, individuals choose to start their transformation through activity, such as attending the gym or swimming pool. Using our previous example of a poor night’s sleep, attending the gym, even when tired, may lead to a better night’s sleep the following night (physical). Fulfilling the goal of attending the gym may lead to a feeling of satisfaction (emotion). Attending the gym may lead to thoughts such as ‘I’m getting stronger’ which may lead to a more positive outlook for the future.
I’m describing an upward, positive spiral of transformation resulting from one positive event, going to the gym. Is this the start of your own transformative journey? If so, how would you like to Be Transformed?
